Independence Day
For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chain,
But to live in a way that respects
and
enhances the freedom of others.
-Nelson Mandela-
Philippines commemorates its independence from Spain Last June 12, 1898. Andres Bonifacio, Jose Rizal, Juan Luna, Diego and Gabriela Silang and many Filipino heroes sacrificed themselves who fought for freedom to our country against the colonizers. It is not only important to celebrate this holiday, but it is also important to not forget its significance for the country. Many Filipinos offered their talents and skills and put their lives at risk to achieve our independence. Their heroic stories should serve as lessons to learn as citizens of this country.
We can be heroes in our own way.
We may have different ways of showing our love for the Philippines but let us appreciate even the little things that we do to express how much we love our country. As simple as keeping our surroundings clean and organized, being a law abiding citizen or serving the country in your own little way is already an act of showing your love.
At this time of pandemic, we have heroes 24/7 serving us. Our frontliners are sacrificing themselves, being away to their families and risking their lives helping people and fighting against Covid-19.
Let’s keep our independence alive. Let’s give a good example to our next generations.
